Insight Edition 1 - December 2007

Welcome to the first edition of Perceptive Online's e-newsletter. In this and future issues we'll be keeping you up to date on the ways in which you can benefit from managed and hosted services.

At Perceptive we listen to our customers, using the insight gained to develop our range of services, so that you can "Do business, not IT". That's why we've called our e-newsletter Insight - "a clear, deep understanding of a complicated problem or situation" according to the Cambridge English Dictionary.

In this issue we look at Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, one of the new services available as a result of our major infrastructure upgrade and expansion programme.

We also outline a simple and cost-effective way of equipping your mobile workers with the IT tools they need, and explore the principles and benefits of Software as a Service (SaaS).

I hope you enjoy this issue of Insight and find it useful. Please do drop us a line or call us with any questions, and let us know what you would find useful in future issues. Issue 2 is scheduled for publication in March.

With our best wishes for Christmas and a highly successful New Year,

Brian Parnham
Managing Director

Software as a Service

Software as a Service

Centralised workforces working in traditional workplaces are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

Significant management challenges are arising as a result of increasing workforce dispersion and mobility. New communication and project coordination strategies are required, and new budgetary pressures must be dealt with.

Traditional software was never intended to address these challenges, but Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions do.

SaaS solutions deliver improved flexibility, security, reliability and data and application availability, while reducing costs, management complexity and risk.

As a result SaaS is rapidly becoming the software model of choice for ambitious small and medium-sized businesses.

Expanded Hosting Capacity

As a key part of Perceptive's ongoing commitment to deliver competitive advantage, and enable you to "Do business, not IT", we are investing in a new server room at our Newbury offices, extending our web hosting and managed server space.

The new facility, which will provide secure capacity for over 150 additional servers will be up and running in December.

The expansion has been driven by increasing demand for Perceptive's web hosting service, as customers realise the value of benefits such as a fully secure server facility, managed firewall, operating system, application and database monitoring, expert support and a service-level agreement.

SharePoint's a Team Player

Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) solves the document version control nightmare!

The ideal collaboration tool, WSS facilitates information sharing, document collaboration and knowledge collation, over the Internet or corporate network.

WSS fully integrates with Office and Exchange 2003, providing an ideal instant Intranet or Extranet solution allowing everyone to access the right versions of key documents

WSS is secure, too. Working from an intranet website you can strictly control who has access to vital information. That's a significant on sharing information via a website, where it is universally visible.
